The Theater Amplifier Standard is
a five-channel power amplifier boasting our latest
circuit topology and a substantial power output of
200 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms (400 Watts per channel
into 4 Ohms). The elegant Krellcoat exterior houses
the technology developed in the Krell Full Power Balanced
amplifiers including a gigantic power supply, Krell
Current Mode circuitry, and balanced operation. The
Theater Amplifier Standard is the reference multi-channel
amplifier for systems that are used for stereo or
multi-channel music and movie playback.
Power Supply
Two 1400 Watt toroidal transformers and 109,000 microfarads
of filter capacitance make up the massive 2800 Watt
power supply that is the engine of the Theater Amplifier
Standard. The power supply is configured to provide
the entire capacity of the transformers to any of
the channels at any time. A design that uses smaller
individual transformers, while cheaper, limits each
channel to its own transformer's lesser capability.
If a channel's demand exceeds its own power supply's
capability, the music suffers. With one common power
supply, there is additional power available whenever
a channel needs it -- the music is never compromised.
Power Output
Today's multichannel music and movie soundtracks place
tremendous stress on amplifiers. Each Theater Amplifier
Standard output channel employs ten output and four
driver devices to deliver the exact power required
by the speakers under any demand. All speakers benefit
from greater power, the more the better. The Theater
Amplifier Standard outputs 200 Watts into 8 Ohms and
400 Watts into 4 Ohms. Additionally, any two adjacent
channels can be bridged into a monaural amplifier
with an 800 Watt (8 Ohm) output.
Circuitry
Featuring circuitry sourced from the Full Power Balanced
amplifiers, the Theater Amplifier Standard includes
technology previously incorporated in the reference
level components only. The circuit topology is executed
with Krell Current Mode circuitry featuring balanced
topology for the lowest noise and true insight into
the recording. Class A input, pre-driver, and driver
stages provide the most accurate signal path for critical
low level signals. Surface mount technology is utilized
for maximum circuit density resulting in the widest
dynamic range and bandwidth possible. Class A input,
pre-driver, and driver stages provide the most accurate
signal path for critical low level signals. The amplifier
circuitry also features exceptionally low negative
feedback for improved clarity and detail resolution.
